'One over me': Kiefer hails Thirdy's Finals MVP award

MANILA, Philippines - Former Ateneo de Manila University superstar Kiefer Ravena saw Game 3 of the UAAP Season 80 finals at home, instead of watching it with his family at the Araneta Coliseum.

Thus, he settled for watching on television when his younger brother, Thirdy, leapt up to embrace their parents and youngest sister, Dani, immediately after the Blue Eagles' 88-86 victory that gave them the championship.

Thirdy helped put the finishing touches on Ateneo's win, assisting on Isaac Go's dagger three-pointer with 24 seconds left. He finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the victory, and was named as the MVP of the finals.

"One over me," Kiefer immediately replied when asked of Thirdy's achievement.

After all, the Finals MVP trophy was the one award that eluded Kiefer in his celebrated UAAP career. He won championships with Ateneo in Seasons 74 and 75, but did not get the Finals MVP nod both times. He did win the MVP in each of his final two seasons, however.

Still, watching his younger brother win the Finals MVP was a delight for Kiefer, who continued to give advice to Thirdy as the season progressed, even as he took the next steps in his own basketball career.
