Bersola, Tiamzon hope Perlas can build on win over Adamson

MANILA, Philippines - Former University of the Philippines (UP) stalwarts Nicole Tiamzon and Kathy Bersola hope their club team has turned a corner after Perlas-BanKo registered its first win of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Sunday.

Perlas-BanKo opened its campaign in the league's second conference with back-to-back losses, but finally broke through with a 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21 victory over the young Adamson University Lady Falcons on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Both Tiamzon and Bersola played crucial roles in the win, with Tiamzon notching back-to-back aces in the final stretch of the fourth set, and Bersola coming through with the match-winner.

"Siyempre, malaking bagay siya, kasi seven games lang (ang elimination round), and we already lost two," said Bersola, who had 13 points in the win. "Kumbaga, ideally, 'yun na 'yung ceiling ng talo for us."

"We really wanted to win this, and sana sa upcoming games, makuha ulit namin," she added.

Only the top four teams at the end of the brief elimination round will advance to the semifinals.
