Arwind Santos is not one to be lulled into complacency by a lopsided win.
The way San Miguel Beer won its opening game against Blackwater to begin its campaign in the PBA Governors’ Cup - and start the last leg of its bid for a Grand Slam - is not what will truly test their potential as a team this season-ending conference, the spider-spanned Santos believes.
“Sa tingin ko hindi yun ang basehan,” said the veteran forward a day after the Beermen trashed the Elite, 118-93, at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City Saturday.
It was a balanced attack by San Miguel as import Wendell McKines finished with a double-double 19 points and 12 rebounds, Marcio Laiiter fired 19 points with five three-pointers, and reigning three-time MVP June Mar Fajardo added 18 points.
Regardless of his apprehension, Santos, who came off the bench to contribute 12 points, says that it’s better for them to get a win than to start a campaign with a setback.
“Kung baga sa nagtatanim, naitanim namin ng tama… sa tamang proseso,” said Santos, a league MVP back in 2013. “Mahirap naman kasi na una pa lang, masama na yung lupang nataniman namin.”
