Water Defenders continue search for PVL gold
MANILA, Philippines - Returning with a virtually intact roster, Bali Pure hopes to finally achieve its goal when it resumes its quest for a breakthrough title in the Premier Volleyball League's Open Conference on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Water Defenders did not make the Finals in either the Open or Reinforced Conferences in the V-League last year, but notched a breakthrough championship appearance in the PVL Reinforced Conference last month.
However, they fell to eventual champions Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors in a well-contested three-game series.
Still, the Water Defenders will enter the Open Conference with a positive outlook, with Coach Roger Gorayeb banking on the team's chemistry and experience to hopefully lead them to a breakthrough title.
"Unlike other teams, we weren't able to get marquee players," he said. "But we're relying on our familiarity with one another to carry us through this conference."
The team will draw strength from three-time NCAA MVP Grethcel Soltones, talented playmaker Jasmine Nabor, the much-improved Risa Sato, and ever reliable libero Lizlee Ann Gata-Pantone.
