Gilas in for a 'dogfight' in SEA Games, warns Kiefer
MANILA, Philippines - As early as now, Kiefer Ravena is already bracing for what may be a difficult campaign in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia, where the Philippines will try to maintain its supremacy in the regional tournament.
Ravena was part of the 2015 team that found itself severely tested by Thailand and Indonesia, though they still went home with the gold medal. It was Ravena's third SEA Games basketball gold, tying him with Rommel Adducul for most all time.
With the chance to win a record fourth gold medal in SEA Games basketball, Ravena is warning his teammates - most of whom are young Gilas cadets - about the enormity of the task at hand.
"Of course, we're in for a dogfight," he said on Tuesday at the Meralco Gym, where Gilas coach Chot Reyes unveiled the nation's SEA Games roster.
Ravena will be joined by Kevin Ferrer, Ray Parks, Von Pessumal, Raymar Jose, Carl Bryan Cruz, Troy Rosario, Christian Standhardinger, Mike Tolomia, Almond Vosotros, and 19-year-old Kobe Paras in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August.
Ferrer and Parks can be considered SEA Games veterans, as both are going for their third gold medals. Most of the team members, however, are competing in the biennial tournament for only the first or second time.
