Austria grants Kraken’s cry for help

Back in Game 1, San Miguel center and three-time MVP June Mar Fajardo admitted that TnT KaTropa import Joshua Smith was a huge load to bear and asked for help from his teammates. Coach Leo Austria responded and the result was a blowout win to help SMB even the series at 1-1.

“I think mga players, they know what to do at mabuti lumabas ngayon. Ever since, game plan namin, meron kaming nakahanda to any situation that will happen. After a bad start, na-antigue yung pride ng mga players,” recalls Austria on their game plan for Smith.

Smith was limited to just 11 points, 6 rebounds and also had 5 turnovers. Austria now feels that they will just have to keep up what they are doing with Smith for the remainder of the series.

“Maganda yung naging strategy naming sa kanya. I think we have to be consistent,” said Austria.

Philippine Cup Finals MVP Chris Ross stressed that putting Smith outside his comfort zone will be key.

“We just try to give him different looks. He is a great player and he is a load to handle. June Mar (Fajardo) is trying is best, Yancy(de Ocampo) is trying his best, we are just going to give him looks from different angles,” said Ross.
